I've been painting mostly surfers these past ten days or so.  I plan on using these images on canvas as a sort of gallery that will hang from my camper roof down both sides of the camper

.  I'll have a total of twelve canvases to try to garner interest in my work.  I usually work from in the surf break using my Nikon D800 with a flash all contained in two waterhousings.  It gets a bit much when I go into the surf 2 to 4 times a day, especially when putting on a cold wet wetsuit.  With this new 600mm telephoto lens I'm sure that I can get some great images and not have to work my butt off as much.

Mission Bay Jetty Surfing

I shot a photograph of this surfer a couple of weeks back.  Been working on this painting using the photo as a guide for most of the day.  Spent last week in a painting class taught by Maryln Sholin up in Sonora, California.  Learned a lot to say the least and am now trying to apply the skills that I learned.  Sonora is located in the California gold country north of Yosemite.  It was great to be back in the area as I lived there for four years back in the 1980's.

Another great weekend and sunset at K38.  Excellent weather, good surf and better friends.

Kicking Back In Baja

Spent last week in Baja at the house, K38.  Surfed a few days, saw a bunch of friends and generally kicked back.  The surf wasn't all that great but it's always great to be in the water.  The sunset image was fun it make as the sun was setting into a heavy cloud bank.

Taking A Rest

I made this image a little while back on one of my trips to the Pacific Coast.  I really like this image but what a shot it would make if it was under full sails out at sea.  I've seen a few tall ships while I was working on the east coast but it has been some time sense I've seen one on the west coast.

Petroglyph/Picture Rock National Site

After spending a week in Baja and San Diego doing surfing photography using my new 600mm lens I headed back to Tucson.  I finally decieded to stop at Petroglyph/Picture Rock National Site. It is as beautiful as I have ever seen a petroglyph site with so many petroglyphs or as some call them "picture rocks"

.  The site dates from 800 to 1200 AD and is located less than a half an hour north of I-8.  The site is just west of Gila Bend, Arizona.  I've passed the turn off to this site literally hundreds of times it seems but never took the time to visit, sure glad I did this time.

Shore Birds

These beautiful shore birds are from California and Baja California photographed on various trips up and down the coast doing my surfing photographing thing.  All birds large and small are amazing as they survive in some harsh environments.  Looking back at these images I always remember the location that the image was made and would like to go back to all of them.
